The Autumn Skin Care Guide
Posted on October 09 2017
A change of weather usually means a transformation in the way the skin acts, frequently resulting in breakouts, dryness, and a generally dull appearance. During the hot summers, our skin care regimen revolved around oil control and sun protection but with the cool and crisp autumn air just around the corner, it’s time to gear up and plan on keeping your skin moisturized and soft. Make the change from summer to fall simply flawless by following these skin care tips:
Change Your Cleansers
Foam and gel cleansers are excellent for deep skin cleansing in the summers. Nonetheless, these might be a little too drying when the temperatures fall and oil production is reduced. Go for lightweight sulfate-free facial gel cleansers in the morning for deep pore cleansing and lotion-based cleansers at night for makeup removal to keep your skin fresh throughout.
Choose the Right Essence
Our skin tends to get drier during the cold and that's when an essence does its wonders. An essence, also known as serum, is an emulsion applied after cleansing and before moisturizing to keep the skin hydrated and supple. With various water and oil-based options available, serums are great for treating acne marks, dry and uneven skin tone, aging skin etc. Use them daily to prevent dry and flaky skin.
Continue to Exfoliate
Exfoliation is another step that you shouldn’t miss. Scrubbing your skin on a weekly basis not just removes your dead cells, makeup residue and blackheads, but it also prevents your skin from getting those annoying flakes. Face scrubbing is also an excellent therapy for blood flow.
Consider using face masks in the fall if your skin is feeling super dry. These masks are made up of moisturizing oils that nourish the skin from within and help to keep it plumped up and soft. Some sheet masks do not have to be rinsed off once they dry, however you can clean the residue with a tissue or leave the surplus to give your skin an extra touch of moisture.
Boost Hydration with Creams and Toners
A lightweight moisturizer is sufficient to protect your skin in summers, however, it’s essential that you replace your lotions with either a cream of thick consistency or body butter to avoid any loss of moisture. You can also mix a few drops of oil with your moisturizer and watch your skin glow like magic. Additionally, alcohol-free toners are a great way to supply your skin with moisture and water that it desperately needs in the cold temperatures.
Protect with Sunblock
You might be surprised to hear this, but your skin needs protection from the sun in fall just like it does in the spring or summer. Though the UVB rays, the ones accountable for sunburns and suntans, are not that strong in the cold, the UVA rays of the sun, the ones responsible for premature wrinkles and skin cancer, are just as strong in autumn as they are in the summers.
